Spiritual Theme 2008

The spiritual theme for the XVIIIth Christus Rex Pilgrimage is:
Thy Kingdom Come.

"Thy kingdom come": by this petition we welcome the rule of our heavenly Father, and thus we become welcome in His realm. Our Lord, like the Baptist, began to preach, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt 4.17), and bade His disciples do likewise (Lk 10.9). If the kingdom of God does not come in us, then it will come against us, for Christ "must reign until He put all His enemies under His feet" (1 Cor 15.25). When one is ready to obey God and keep all His commandments, then God reigns in the heart: "When we ask therefore that His kingdom come, we pray that sin may not reign in us, but God" (St Thomas Aquinas). "We pray, in effect, for the sanctification of the whole world, that the knowledge of the true and living God and of His Son Jesus Christ may be spread over all the earth, that all nations may serve Him, all tongues praise Him and all hearts may love Him" and "that His kingdom, His grace and His truth may be victorious over all the world" (Bp Challoner). Aided by the prayers of Our Lady, heaven's Queen, may our progress towards and arrival at the cathedral of Bendigo foster the coming and flourishing of heaven's sway in ourselves and our neighbour.

Introducing... THE PILGRIMS' POST!!

Comments from pilgrims who walked on the 2007 Christus Rex Pilgrimage...

Christus Rex, meaning 'Christ the King', signifies that we, as Catholics, believe Jesus Christ to be the true and Eternal King of kings.

To be able to walk under such a magnificent title in itself is enough. The highlight of the pilgrimage for me was to be walking with so many good and interesting Catholics and through this to be able to learn so much more about the faith!

From the many different aspects of the pilgrimage, between the walking, singing and praying in front of onlookers, sleeping on floors, meeting new people, and most importantly coming closer to God, we can take away with us a much easier sense of spreading the truth of Christ's Gospel.

There is also the other main aspect of doing penance, whether it be for a personal intention, the Holy Souls in Purgatory or offering it up for one's sins. All of these things are what make me return to the Christus Rex each year.

Pilgrimage 2007 - another awesome and inspiring pilgrimage!
Ronan Reilly

"It felt completely different, like I was in another world. I just wanted it to go on and on. It is a great way to meet Catholics from other states and get to know them. I hope that nothing will stop me from going again in 2008."

Letter from a pilgrim to The Remnant

Dear Mr Matt,

I am a 13 year old girl in Adelaide, South Australia who reads the Remnant. There is not another thirteen year old I know in Adelaide who does.

I am lucky enough that here in Australia we have our annual Traditional Christus Rex Pilgrimage from Ballarat to Bendigo, Victoria.

I would like to draw to the Remnant's and the Remnant's readers attention of this wonderful event held from Friday to Sunday on the week-end of the traditional Feast of Christ the King in October. The Pilgrimage itself is based on the famous Paris to Chartes Pilgrimage in France. A pilgrimage I know the Remnant participates in. The Christus Rex Pilgrimage has been going for seventeen years and is celebrated to give glory to Christ the King.

This year the seventeenth year has been the biggest yet with approximately 260 registrations and Francesca Wills and the rest of the Christus Rex society would like it to grow. The pilgrimage includes daily traditional mass, compline, homilies during breaks, confession, blessings and a Children's chapter. If you would like more information on the Christus Rex Pilgrimage there are videos, photos, letters and registration information on the website www.crex.org

May God Bless you
Yours Truly

Dear Miss Ronson,

Good day, to you. Many thanks for your well-written letter, which most assuredly will appear in the next issue of The Remnant. I would like very much to make this pilgrimage one day. Perhaps I will, God willing.

Many thanks as well for reading The Remnant. I'm very pleased to have you as a subscriber. Should you ever care to write little update letters on how things are going for Catholic families living in Australia, please know that I would be delighted to publish them in The Remnant. I think young ladies in America would be inspired by your letters and by your commitment to serve our Lord, Christ the King.

God bless you always,
Michael Matt
